Führerbunker - children’s playground
This is a children’s sandpit. It is in a modern housing development in central Berlin on Voßstraße. The picture was taken in 2008.
Underneath this area is the “Führerbunker” - the underground bunker used as a working and living quarters for Hitler and his immediate personal staff towards the end of World War 2.
- In 1945 Hitler committed suicide here.
- In 1947 Soviet soldiers tried to demolish it.
- In 1988 the German government finished the job, afraid the site might become a shrine for neo-Nazis.
